If that's the case my best guess is that DI is injured or something and they stuck him there because they are short on DIs who don't have a whole cycle left to put in recruit receiving. Still even if he is injured and can't exercise as much, he could just eat less.....

Can you, as a soldier, sailor, airman, or marine, help improve the United States of America by offering your service in the military? We have a major infrastructure problem. The foundations of our country (The Constitution) may be solid, but the webbing that holds us all together is unraveling. Our leaders are ineffective. Our courts of justice are mired down in their own inability to determine what is both legal and right. Our politicians are increasingly self-serving, greedy and dishonest. Our faith has stopped being a touchstone and is now a self-righteous panderer to further it's own political views. We celebrate the inane, mundane and insane on social media. We tout the belief that everyone is entitled to get something for nothing. We revel in the glory of consumerism, honest and dishonest, not to show our success, but to browbeat others into submission. We are destroying ourselves from the inside out, and our enemies just have to sit back and be patient. When we implode, and we will, our enemies can waltz in with a dustpan and broom and sweep away our efforts to be something greater than we could actually deliver.

There's about 10,000 candidates for 200 places. Sure these guys have to be fit, but the British army wants a lot more than basic fitness. Noone drops out of training. These guys aren't beasted by loud Serjeant Majors. These are the most motivated people in the army.
